I went to my second Dr.'s visit today. Not I'm not sick, not really. It was recommended to me to go to a Functional Medicine Specialist and thankfully we have one in town. How is this different than your standard Dr.'s office visit? Glad you asked. For starters, my initial visit was a whopping 2 hours long. Yeah, you read that right. Have you ever been to a Dr.'s appointment and had direct interaction for 2 long hours? It was amazing. I'll warn you though, it is a bit more spendy than a regular doctor's visit. The reason is that they typically are not in the network of providers for most insurance companies. This Dr. disagrees with limiting a visit to just 15 minutes and compartmentalizing ailments and treating them all separately. Doesn't it make sense that a doctor look at the whole person and take everything into account before trying to treat them? Why treat (and I really mean cover up) each issue when the whole body works together. One system does not work without another system supporting or affecting it.
After my first appointment I went in for a long blood draw, meaning many vials were full by the time I left the lab. I also did some spit tests and mailed them off to a lab. I got a call for a follow up appointment when the test results were in. I just did that today. Bottom line? I'm low on everything, like really low. Remedy? I cocktail of vitamins and hormones to get me in balance again, feeling better, more energetic, improved memory, less moody, and overall able to cope with regular life with a sense of purpose and joy. It also confirmed that as young as I am I am in fact in menopause. Yep. That stage of life is officially over for me. And I am glad to know that is where I stand, instead of thinking that something was wrong with me.
If you live in my area (and if you know me you know if you do or not), I will highly recommend this doctor. Just leave a comment and I will get you contact information. If you are hypo or hyper anything go see this doctor. Please spend a little extra and get what I consider proper medical care.
Susan

Love your header! And what a novel concept to medicine - truly. I'm so glad you know what's going on and can treat it now. And so glad you like your doc. It makes such a difference. <3
